Dharma Path Privacy Policy

How the Dharma Path app handles your information.

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how DGS App Studio ("we", "us") handles information in connection with the Dharma Path mobile application ("the App"). Dharma Path is designed to be offline-first and privacy-respecting: the devotional content and Panchang calculations work on your device. The App does not require an account and does not store your personal data on our servers. The App does, however, display advertising through Google AdMob, which involves the limited data collection described below.

Data we collect

Dharma Path is built to minimize data collection. Specifically:

  • Content you read, bookmark and favorite is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us.
  • App preferences (such as language, text size, theme and your selected city) are stored locally on your device using Room, DataStore and SharedPreferences.
  • Advertising identifier and limited device information are collected and processed by Google AdMob to serve ads (see Advertising & AdMob).
  • Approximate location may be used, only with your permission, to compute Panchang timings on your device (see Location).

We do not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, contact details or precise (GPS) location. We do not operate servers that store your personal data, and we do not use crash-reporting or analytics SDKs (no Firebase, Crashlytics or third-party analytics are integrated into the App).

How we use data

Any limited data processed is used only to:

  • Operate the App and remember your preferences on your device.
  • Display advertising through Google AdMob so we can offer the App for free.
  • Compute Panchang timings locally when you enable approximate location.
  • Check for App updates through Google Play.

We do not sell your personal information.

Advertising & AdMob

Dharma Path is free and supported by advertising. The App displays banner ads and native ads using Google AdMob, a Google advertising service. To serve these ads, Google may collect and process your device's Advertising ID and limited device information (such as device type, coarse network information and ad interaction data). Where applicable and permitted by your settings, ads may be personalized based on this information; otherwise non-personalized ads are served.

Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's own policies. For details, see Google's advertising policy and Google's Privacy Policy.

Advertising ID

The App uses the Google Advertising ID (the AD_ID permission) for advertising. This means:

  • Your device's Advertising ID is collected to enable ad serving and measurement.
  • The Advertising ID is shared with Google (AdMob) for advertising purposes.

You can reset or delete your Advertising ID at any time from your device's Google settings ("Ads" section), which limits ad personalization.

Location

Approximate (city-level) location is optional. If you grant the permission, it is used only to calculate Panchang information (such as sunrise and tithi timings) on your device. You are never required to enable location: the App provides a full manual city selection alternative. Location data is processed locally on your device, is not shared with third parties, and is not stored on our servers. The App requests only approximate location (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) and does not request precise/GPS location.

Notifications & exact alarms

With your permission, the App sends local notifications on your device, including:

  • Daily Quote notifications delivered at a set time each day.
  • Ekadashi reminders for upcoming observance days.

These notifications are generated locally on your device and are not sent from a server. To deliver them at the correct time even when the App is closed, on supported Android versions (Android 12+) the App may use the exact alarm permission (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM). On Android 13+ you will be asked to allow notifications, and you can decline or revoke either permission at any time in your device settings.

Google Play In-App Updates

The App uses Google Play In-App Updates to prompt you when a newer version is available through the Google Play Store. This update process is handled by Google Play services. DharmaPath does not collect any personal data during this process; any data involved is handled by Google Play under Google's own policies.

Network usage

The App requires internet access only for:

  • Serving advertising (Google AdMob).
  • Checking for App updates via Google Play.

The core devotional content and Panchang calculations work offline and do not require a network connection.

Permissions

Dharma Path requests only the permissions necessary for its features:

  • Internet / network state — to serve ads and check for updates.
  • Notifications — to deliver Daily Quote and Ekadashi reminders (Android 13+).
  • Exact alarm — to deliver reminders at a precise time (Android 12+).
  • Approximate location — optional, for Panchang calculations.
  • Advertising ID — used by Google AdMob for advertising.
  • Receive boot completed — to re-arm reminders after the device restarts.

Where a permission is optional, you can decline or revoke it at any time in your device settings.

Third-party services

The App integrates the following Google services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

  • Google AdMob — advertising (collects and processes the Advertising ID and limited device data).
  • Google Play services and Google Play In-App Updates — update delivery and platform services.

We do not integrate Firebase, Crashlytics or any third-party analytics SDK, and we do not maintain server-side user accounts or cloud storage of your personal data.

Google Play Data Safety

Consistent with our Google Play Data Safety declaration, the App handles the following data:

  • Device or other IDs (Advertising ID) — Collected and Shared. Purpose: Advertising.
  • Approximate location — Collected, not shared. Purpose: App functionality (Panchang). Optional.

Data storage & security

Your reading history, bookmarks, favorites and preferences remain on your device. We do not store your personal data on our servers. We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect any data we do handle. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information.

Children's privacy

Dharma Path is suitable for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can address it.

Your rights

Because most data stays on your device, you can clear it at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling the App. You can reset or delete your Advertising ID and revoke location and notification permissions in your device settings. For any request regarding data we may hold, contact us and we will respond in line with applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the App.
